Wisdom teeth, or third molars, often emerge during the mid-teenage years to early adulthood, posing potential challenges to oral health. Signs You Should Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed

Recognizing the signs that your wisdom teeth need removal is crucial for avoiding severe pain and potential oral infections. Impacted wisdom teeth — those that fail to fully erupt — can cause a range of issues. Here are some key indicators:

Persistent Pain: Severe pain or mild discomfort in the back of the mouth, especially when chewing, can signal impacted wisdom teeth.

Gum Inflammation: Swelling, redness, or tenderness in the gums behind the last molars may indicate gum disease or gum infection.

Jaw Pain and Headaches: Wisdom teeth can cause discomfort in the jaw joint, leading to headaches and facial pain.

Sinus Complications: Upper wisdom teeth can affect sinus health, leading to sinus complications and pressure.

Damage to Adjacent Teeth: Impacted wisdom teeth can push against adjacent teeth, causing damage to neighboring teeth, misalignment, and even tooth decay.

Cyst Formation: In some cases, impacted wisdom teeth can lead to cyst formation or the growth of cysts, which can damage the jaw bone and nearby teeth.

Bad Breath and Bad Taste: These can be signs of oral infections caused by impacted wisdom teeth.

Difficulty Opening the Mouth: Limited jaw movement can be a sign of impacted wisdom teeth.

Ignoring these signs can lead to severe infection, damage to permanent teeth, and the need for more complex treatments. Early intervention is key to preventing these issues.

Types of Anesthesia

We offer several forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.

The Wisdom Teeth Removal Process

Wisdom tooth removal procedures at Granger Oral Surgery & Dental Implants are performed with precision and care. The process begins with a consultation appointment, where Dr. Davis will evaluate your oral health, discuss your treatment options, and address any concerns. Advanced imaging, such as X-rays or 3D scans, will be used to assess the position and condition of your wisdom teeth.

On the day of the dental surgery, anesthesia options will be administered to ensure your comfort. Small incisions will be made in the gum tissue to expose the wisdom teeth. If necessary, the tooth is divided into sections to facilitate removal. After the tooth extraction, the extraction sites are cleaned, and the gum tissue is sutured. Gauze pads are placed to control slight bleeding, and ice packs are applied to minimize swelling.

Postoperative instructions will be provided, including guidelines for a soft food diet, pain medication, and oral hygiene. We recommend avoiding chewy foods, crunchy foods, solid foods, and spicy foods during the initial healing process. Vigorous rinsing should be avoided immediately after surgery to prevent dry socket, which is when the blood clot forms improperly.

Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your healing gums and ensure a superior outcome. A responsible adult should accompany you home after the procedure.

"My dentist referred me to Dr. Anderson to have my wisdom teeth out. I was a little nervous. Dr. Anderson and his staff explained things very well to me, which lessened my nerves a bit. The surgery went very well. I didn't feel any pain with that, so I was happy about that. The staff was very warm and welcoming. They make you feel like you're the only patient in the room. Dr. Anderson is very compassionate and caring, and I would recommend him to anyone. I'm very happy I got my wisdom teeth out. It's like finally they are done, and it's over with. I had a great experience at Granger Oral Surgery."

"My three children had their wisdom teeth in need of being extracted, and the initial phone call really answered a lot of my questions and kind of eased a lot of my anxieties. All three of my children's procedures were pretty similar; the recovery time was a little bit different. Everything went really well from start to finish. Even that night, Dr. Anderson personally calls you, which just always surprised me, and it was just a pleasant surprise, just very, again, compassionate and concerned about their well-being and how they were recovering. Dr. Anderson is just a very kind and compassionate person. That comes across from the moment you meet him. I know my children were very much at ease. I would highly recommend Dr. Anderson."
